Liberty members travel to USA for the Summer

Liberty are delighted to confirm that this year two of our members will be spending their Summer in America as part of Coastal Surge Drum and Bugle Corps.
Orin Willis (19) and Simi Gill (17) will travel to South Carolina for an intensive period of training before going on the DCI tour with Coastal Surge culminating in the Open Class Championships in Michigan City. They will then move on to the World Class Championships at Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the Indianapolis Colts.
This will be Orin’s second season with Coastal Surge having spent last Summer with the corps playing auxillery/rack percussion in the front line. Liberty are really proud that this year Orin has been chosen as bass drum section leader. Orin joined Liberty, aged 12, at our very first rehearsal in 2008 playing bass drum and has spent the last 3 years at Liberty as a snare player.
When Liberty started a Colourguard in 2009, Simi, then also aged 12, was one of the very first to join and has been a natural as Guard Captain for Liberty ever since. Simi flies out right after her last A Level exam.
Liberty are delighted to have forged a relationship with Coastal Surge, under the leadership of the hugely supportive Eric Thompson and his team, that will hopefully see more of our members have this wonderful opportunity over the coming years.
At Liberty’s first rehearsal back in September 2008 we played a DVD of some DCI corps and said that our aim was to inspire our members to travel to America to have an incredible experience and take part right at the top of our activity….and then return with new skills and knowledge to share with us and help develop the corps.
We are really proud to see that aim becoming reality, and look forward to waving our Union Jacks again in Lucas Oil Stadium this Summer.
