It’s been a busy Spring at Liberty…..we’ve led off the Waendal International Walk, played “When the Saints go marching in” a gazillion times at Northampton Saints Rugby Union matches, have opened a local school fete, have had our first Summer show camp and some of our 6th formers/college students have given 3 presentations at local junior schools. Phew!
We’ve also had a bit of a re-think for our Summer season. When we returned from the European Indoor Percussion Championships in Belgium we couldn’t see how we could get a totally new show on the field in 10 weeks without putting our members, their families and our staff under too much pressure …especially those doing GCSEs and A levels. So we are taking things a little slower this year and we won’t be on the competition field until July 4th. We’ve also worked with American show designers, Visaudio Designs who have developed our winter percussion show “Together” into a Summer band show…..and so our planned Protest show will be for another year.
This will be Northampton based Liberty’s 7th season and will see us field 2 units. We have successfully recruited 15 new young people into Liberty since last season and so in 2015 Liberty Drum Corps will have 40 members aged 11-21 years on the field (a couple of brass places still to fill) and Liberty Juniors will have around 20 members aged 9 – 12 years in their show.
It’s looking like a great year at Liberty!
