Every summer since 2014, Liberty members have flown out to the USA to compete with some of the world's top drum corps in Drum Corps International (DCI); marching music's major league. This year is no different. Last week was mellophone player Elliott's last Liberty rehearsal before his American journey with Spartans Drum & Bugle Corps, based in New Hampshire, began.
Elliott was just 9 years old when he joined Liberty and couldn't complete an entire summer show. Now 17, he is one of the leading brass players at Liberty and currently holds the Band Member Of The Year title. Following in the footsteps of Ruby, a Liberty Colourguard member who competed with Spartans in 2017, Elliott will have the summer-of-a-lifetime touring through ten US states whilst being educated by some of the top drum corps instructors.
Elliott left his final Liberty rehearsal with a Union Jack flag (signed by Liberty members), duck tape and sunglasses - just so his American peers know what gear is his. Liberty are very proud of how far Elliott has come as a brass player, wish him the best of luck and are looking forward to his return to Liberty's Brassline in August.
